AUTHOR’S NOTEBOOK

Editing means caring for the writer’s voice

Jean Carlos Araque Ramírez · 30 September 2026

A manuscript may hold a valuable idea without yet finding its form. Sometimes the argument appears too late. At other times repetition weakens the writer’s intention. Editorial work begins by understanding that intention.

Editing requires reading the structure and listening to the voice. I propose changes that help the text move forward, give claims their support and ensure each chapter contributes to the book. A sound edit makes the author’s thinking more visible.

Before starting, the scope should be agreed: structural review, copyediting or text preparation. That clarity protects the project and supports careful work. As a writer and editor, I aim to help a book express more clearly what it has to say.
